How does Playable comply with GDPR?

General Data Protection Regulation

Updated over a week ago

For Enterprise accounts, Playable offers configuration options that support compliance with the European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

How IP Address Data Is Used

When a recipient opens an email containing a Playable video, limited IP address data may be used to optimize the viewing experience.

This data can be used to:

  • Adjust video content based on geographic region

  • Adapt content based on local time of day

  • Provide aggregate reporting on geography and time of engagement

For example, viewers in different regions of a country may receive localized variations of the same video. Similarly, video content can be adjusted depending on whether the email is opened in the morning or the afternoon.

IP address data is also used for aggregated reporting insights.

GDPR Considerations

Under the General Data Protection Regulation, IP addresses are considered personal data within the European Union.

Organizations that require strict data handling policies may choose to limit or eliminate the storage or processing of such data.

Enterprise Configuration Option

Playable offers Enterprise customers the option to discard all IP address data received when a recipient opens an email containing a video.

When this configuration is enabled:

  • IP address data is not stored

  • IP address data is not processed

  • Geographic and time of day personalization features are disabled

This allows Enterprise customers to align Playable’s behavior with their internal compliance requirements.
